Now that I have your attention, let’s discuss two terms that have been doing the rounds of all major lifestyle, health and spirituality related website on the internet — Reiki and Yoga.

First of all, the two originate in different countries, Japan and India respectively, and despite being medical treatments that concern energy, have very different methods.

Also, both are extremely beneficial and are practiced by millions if not billions in not only their countries of origin, but all over the globe.

The two hold one common link: both believe that there exists some form of primordial energy in the human body and that certain movements of it around or in a particular direction, is supposed to help you gain a better state of health, physically, emotionally, mentally and even debatably, sexually.

Yoga, comes from India, and originates in the Sanskrit word “Yog”: to augment, add, to increase.

This is a reference to the fact that it is supposed to augment the state of health of practitioners.

It is a combination of meditation and physical poses, called asanas, which are supposed to increase blood flow and increase nerve function.

The spiritual goal is to facilitate the movement of the energy known as “kundalini” that resides at the base of the spine.

Reiki is more of a healing technique that requires a patient in need and a healer or reiki practitioner.

It has the same roots as the art of acupuncture and believes in the existence of certain points in the body which are reservoirs of energy.

These are actually points rich in nerve endings. The healer’s job is simple: to massage the patient till he or she has energy circulating from said points all over the body.

Like yoga, it is the movement of said energy that is the aim of the exercise/treatment.
