What’s the first thing you do when you crash on your couch after a long day at work? Open your shoes. Have you ever liked walking on a beach with your shoes on? No. Right?

Nobody can deny that no matter how expensive those cushiony shoes are, nothing feels as good as being bare feet. After all, we humans have a history of being barefoot climbers and hunters.

Over time, scientists have come up with the ideal concept that speaks perfectly about the feeling we get which while walking bare feet. Earthing in its literal term means staying connected to the ground.

It is also known as grounding. It requires you to place your feet directly on the ground without wearing socks, shoes or slippers. There should be absolutely no barrier between your feet and the ground.

Grounding helps in elimination of toxic energies from your body. The earth carries the negative charge in a heavy amount.  The charge emitting from the surface of the earth is said to be rich in electron, hence acting as a good supply of antioxidants and free radical destroying electrons.

Connecting with the Earth—which is known to maintain a negative electrical charge—can provide the needed negative ions to create balance within the body’s cells.

The lesser known fact is that walking shoeless also has a positive effect on your heart.

A study published in 2013 in the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine, stated that walking barefoot reduces blood viscosity. Blood viscosity is a measurement of the thickness and stickiness of an individual’s blood.

It is a direct measure of the ability of blood to flow through the blood vessels. Elevated blood viscosity is a strong independent predictor of cardiovascular events.

Walking barefoot substantially lowered the instance of unwanted blood cell clumping in every one of the subjects and promoted healthier circulation.
